I'm So Bored of Anti-Americanism
I'm So Bored of Anti-Americanism
After more than two decades of hearing your unsolicited opinions on the Evil Empire, Emily DeDakis is convinced: Y’all are doing it wrong. This will be part performance essay, part conversation, and a pure skewering of everyone’s national myths. Let’s eat toast and tear the new world order apart.
I'm So Bored of Anti-Americanism
Emily & friends* will dig into good ol’ everyday, garden-variety anti-Americanism: Is it righteous anger or lazy comedy? Is it understandable, unconscionable or maybe just unavoidable? We’ll cover punching up, rants and bants, exceptionalism, socialism, Prince, ICE and all points in between. This evening will be a potluck of ideas and questions** about everything we dare to say about the United States of America, and the stuff we always leave out.
Statesiders will note that ideally this kind of thing would happen when we’re all half-cut in the middle of the night at a Waffle House. Since that experience is unavailable here, we’ll make it a potluck Toast Bar. We’ll have bread, butter and toasters; you bring your favourite toast toppings to share (sweet or savoury). Accidental is a BYO venue, so bring anything you’d like to drink as well.
Tickets to help cover theatre & toast costs are £5/£10
7 p.m. - doors (and Toast Bar) open
7:30 - 9 p.m. - event & conversation
*including a Canadian (see if you can tell our accents apart)
**also toast. There will absolutely be toast
This event is an exploration of ideas from Emily’s essay collection in progress, Avocados in Ireland, which is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
