Handmade Music
Handmade Music
Monthly experimental music night in Belfast. Short sets, time to chat, space to move.
Handmade Music
Handmade Music is a brand-new experimental music night specially curated to feature an amazing mix of well-known artists, lesser-known artists, and surprise guests! All performing music from the edges of their craft.
You’ll hear ‘never-before-heard’ music, and music that may never be heard again.
Join the Handmade Music community in-person or online on the first Thursday of each month as we create this space for experimental/improvised music to exist…and seeing what comes out the other side.
Hope to see you there!
The Line-Ups!
Tashi Dorji
Approx. 35 min set
Tashi Dorji is a Bhutanese-born, Asheville-based experimental guitarist whose fiercely intuitive improvisations have carved out a unique space in the contemporary avant-garde.
His expansive discography includes deeply felt solo works like Stateless (2020) and We Will Be Wherever the Fires Are Lit (2024), and his recent electric album Low Clouds Hang, This Land Is on Fire (2026) on Drag City.
His collaborators span a wide spectrum from Mette Rasmussen, Susie Ibarra, Efrim Manuel Menuck (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Alex Zhang Hungtai, John Dieterich (Deerhoof), Audrey Chen and Joe McPhee to more recent partnerships with Tony Buck (The Necks), Terrie Ex, Andy Moor (The Ex), bassist John Edwards, and drummer Steve Noble.
Across his solo and group projects, Dorji’s playing – rooted in alternate tunings, prepared guitar, and spontaneous gesture – articulates an aesthetic of resistance, deep listening, and collective transformation.
QUBe
Approx. 25 min set
Our house band QUBe – usually to be found upstairs in the attic – will stretch their legs with a large ensemble show. Expect the unexpected!
QUBe is a music collective based in Belfast involving students, staff, and musicians from inside and outside Queen’s University Belfast. QUBe brings together performers from diverse artistic backgrounds and musical interests.
kelsorosie
Approx. 25 min set
Rosie Murphy is a harpist, composer and performer, graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in classical harp and the Institute of Sonology in live electronic music and programming. In 2025, Rosie won the BBC ACNI Young Musician Platform Award and performed with the Ulster Orchestra for BBC’s Classical Connections.
Her electronic project, kelsorosie, explores the possibilities of harp in underground music contexts and pushes against the norm of electronic instruments taking precedence in dance and late-night settings. kelsorosie has performed at Parish Queer, Vondelbunker, Bold Frontiers, Electric Picnic, Dublin Modular and Kirkos.
Presented by Moving on Music and SARC in association with Accidental Theatre, with support from Improvising Futures SSHRC partnership.
