February 2023

HAVE YOU MISSED OUT?

Or were you there?

We’re another month deep into 2023 and the evenings are getting lighter, and aurora borealis has even made an appearance in the local skies! So things are looking up (don’t mention the NI protocol/Windsor framework) and AT has had some cracking things going on.

February

The building has been jammed with things once again (wink wink) - Commedia Of Errors are back after their successful auditions last month to rehearse their new show I Am Maura, which is already sold out at The MAC and is going on tour around NI. They’ve been using the Rehearsal Room and the Theatre to get to full run-through stage in readiness for their first show.

Mid-month Youth Action used the Book Bar to hash out some ideas - as evidenced by their projector, table, and scribbled-upon pieces of A1 paper set up!

Emy and Gillian took to Studio 1 to record another episode of Take Me Or Leave Me, the love it or hate it musical theatre podcast - their first of the year. They talk about the controversial figure of… Andrew Lloyd Webber!

Tune in here or wherever you get your podcasts.

Our second floor bathrooms are reaching the home stretch - all they need now is plumbing. But sure, that’s the easy bit, right?!

We think they’re looking swell so far!

Show-wise, February started with our first Handmade Music of the year, with performances from Barry Cullen (who we interviewed in The Chair last month about it), QUBensemble, Son Zept, and Aga Olek, who was in The Chair this month talking about her wonderful music:

Following hot on its heels has been more music with Tea & Jam and Cosmic Jam, weekly Sunday Improv, and a great Stand Up set from the new graduates of Paul Mone’s classes.

Paul teaches Stand Up and Improv, you can find him here.

Shrove Tuesday saw the team take their regular meeting to local eatery Maggie May’s, to indulge in their wide range of pancakes. Gillian went for the classic, sugar and lemon, Emy for Biscoff, Rich for the classic with a side of Nutella, and Marty the full vegan breakfast pancake. What a feast!

Can we do that for every team meeting please?!

Never Seen It Film Club gave us a showing of Baz Luhrman’s Strictly Ballroom (1992), where we saw some lovely faces old and new, who stayed afterwards for an informal film chat.

You can also see more of Never Seen It Film Club on our Youtube channel - AND it’s a podcast!
Check out Emy and Robert’s film discussions about each month’s film choice, to listen to alongside your new Take Me Or Leave Me obsession:

Phew!

With a Rehearsal Room, Meeting Room, Book Bar, Offices, and Theatre space all open for people to book as they please, it sure gets busy round here!

Contact us to book, chat, or if you have any queries at info@accidentaltheatre.co.uk or if you’re a Member, via our Discord channel.

Here’s Marty testing the new green screen set up in Studio 1, where Richard and Gillian then filmed our little behind-the-scenes chat that’s at the top of this page, where they talk about AT’s origin stories.

Our tech capabilities have come a long way since Accidental started, now we can pretend to be in the Rehearsal Room when we’re actually… in the basement!

And so much more.
