Designed for artists, filmmakers, and digital storytellers, the course balances hands-on experimentation with critical reflection, supporting learners to confidently plan, capture, and evaluate immersive video content. Across three structured sessions, participants will move from core concepts and tools through real-world filming, concluding with a reflective review that consolidates learning and supports future development.
SESSION ONE - One Day Introduction to Immersive Video
SESSION TWO - Practical Training session in a real life filming of a project (Dates will be offered at or just after first session)
SESSION THREE - A final session to review your experiences, ask more/follow-up questions, and critique what you have achieved.

This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience in digital media who want a practical, supportive introduction to immersive video production.

SESSION ONE – One-Day Introduction
This intensive introductory day provides a grounding in immersive video and how it differs from traditional filmmaking. Participants will explore the creative possibilities, key terminology, and audience experience of immersive content. The session covers basic camera types, sound considerations, framing in 180°, practical considerations, and an overview of post-production workflows. Through demonstrations and discussion, participants will gain the knowledge needed to confidently approach immersive filming.

Awareness of storytelling, technical, and ethical considerations
SESSION TWO – Practical Training: Real-Life Filming
This hands-on session places participants in a real-world filming environment. Working individually or in small groups, participants will plan and capture immersive video footage, applying techniques introduced in Session One. The focus is on learning through practice—problem-solving on location, managing space and movement, and responding to real-world challenges. Facilitators provide guidance and feedback throughout the session.

Insight into planning and adapting immersive shoots
SESSION THREE – Review, Reflection, and Critique
The final session brings the group together to review footage, reflect on the filming experience, and critically assess the work produced. Participants are encouraged to ask follow-up questions, share challenges, and discuss creative and technical choices. Constructive peer and facilitator feedback supports deeper learning and helps participants identify next steps for developing their immersive video practice.

This will happen at Accidental in the Theatre, in the Ground Floor theatre.
Remote
This will happen over Zoom, you will be able to see and hear the course but you won’t have the same hands-on experience.
Facilitator - Richard Lavery
Richard is the Artistic Director of Accidental, where he has consistently explored the intersection of performance, technology, and audience experience. With a background in experimental theatre and digital innovation, Richard has been at the forefront of integrating digital storytelling into live and hybrid performance contexts. His work investigates how immersive video can extend theatrical storytelling beyond the stage, creating intimate, participatory experiences for audiences. Drawing on his directing practice, Richard brings a practitioner-led approach to immersive video, combining artistic vision with practical insight into production, collaboration, and audience engagement.
