This introductory session provides a comprehensive overview of live streaming for creative and event-based contexts. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of live streaming, including platforms (such as YouTube, Vimeo, and social media), basic streaming workflows, the differences between single-camera and multi-camera setups, and the pros and cons of different streaming solutions (fixed and mobile). Video is just one aspect of live-streaming, so this session will cover essential technical elements – cameras, audio, lighting, encoding, and internet connectivity – alongside creative considerations such as directing for the screen, audience engagement, and accessibility. Participants will also explore planning and risk management, including troubleshooting common issues that beset live streaming. Consideration will also be given to approaches regarding working with clients to get the best results with the minimum fuss.

Understanding of live streaming workflows and platforms
Familiarity with essential equipment and software
Ability to plan a live stream with confidence
Insight into working with clients
SESSION TWO – Practical Training: Real-Life Filming
This hands-on session places participants within a real-world live streaming environment during shows at Accidental. Participants will take part in the setup, operation, and delivery of a live stream, gaining direct experience of working under live conditions and coping with the almost inevitable technical challenges. Guided by facilitators, participants will rotate through roles such as camera operation, vision mixing, audio monitoring, and stream management. Dates for this session will be offered during or shortly after Session One to align with scheduled performances.
Key outcomes:
Real-life experience of live streaming during a public event
Practical understanding of crew roles and live workflows
Increased confidence responding to live technical challenges
SESSION THREE – Review, Reflection, and Critique
The final session brings participants together to reflect on their live streaming experiences.
