Our Community Work
Welcome to Accidental Theatre, where we aim to becoming the home for creativity, diversity and freedom of expression.
We provide a safe space for the community within Belfast and the North of Ireland, where all artists of all levels feel welcomed and supported by our team and fellow artists.
Accidental Theatre through its outreach program is dedicated to supporting the community in Belfast, celebrating the diversity, different cultures and backgrounds in arts and in bringing everyone together for a vibrant future.
We are building strategic relationships with organisations and groups that support refugees and migrants to ensure providing the support they need to integrate in the society while being able to express themselves and where they’re coming from safely.
We aim for a united society that accepts and celebrates diversity, starting with ourselves, by building different projects that will enable people of different backgrounds to come together, learn about each other’s cultures, engage with each other and embrace the good relations within diversity.
All community groups are welcome to implement different events where they can freely express their culture, heritage and issues that concern them, as well as hosting events, shows, rehearsals, meetings, and different activities upon request in our building.
“There’s nothing else like it that I know of in Belfast or further afield. This makes it very, very valuable… the setup is great, good sound system, good lights, great vibe”
On that area we have initiated the ArtFlow community project, which allows all artists and community groups in Belfast to use our space to network with each other, get the support they need from Accidental team and touch base for potential collaborations and common projects with one another.
Beyond our facilities and open space, we organise different regular events to provide opportunities for emerging artists to perform their work, get feedback and publication.
“It’s a very friendly, inclusive show that provides bands, singer songwriters and experimental musicians a wonderful opportunity to try out in front of a supportive audience”
Cosmic Jam: a monthly open mic with a backline of equipment. A great opportunity to support emerging musicians to get the support they need to perform their tunes to other fellow musicians and a friendly audience who get to play some tunes together.
Cosmic Jam has been evident to provide a safe space for musicians who aren’t confident yet to play their tunes publicly on stages, it had been a launching event for some music groups and individuals.
SCRATCH: a bimonthly open stage event that gives performing artists the opportunity to present their work in-progress to an audience of fellow artists who provide feedback and support each other in developing artistic skills and views.
Scratch has been evident to support emerging artists developing new pieces and providing them the opportunity to have a third eye on their work in-progress to enrich their experience and serve their research.
“I am really passionate about sharing experimental work and believe there should be initiatives that help stage more original work on the local scene. I think Accidental are doing a great job pioneering this”
Furthermore, we run other regular events on the areas of film industry, comedy, writing, reading, in additional to a line up of different courses and workshops.
Beyond our projects, we welcome all initiatives to use our building and get support from our skilful team. If you are a community group or an artist that needs the space and advice to achieve your goals in different art forms, or if you just want a platform to freely express your culture and heritage in Belfast, please let us know and we will do our best to support you
