Improvisation is the art of spontaneously and effortlessly performing without a script. Improv Comedy was brought to mainstream audiences in the UK and Ireland through the popular TV show ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’, and continues to entertain people in theatres up and down the country.

Follow in the footsteps of comedic improvisers Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Robin Williams, Will Ferrell, and Stephen Colbert, and explore your potential!

In Someone Else’s Shoes

Advanced

Inspired by playback theatre, this workshop is focused on using and developing our improv skills so we can take stories from the audience and elevate them into art using some basic structures and forms. We'll work with many tools for playing with symbolism and we'll learn to identify underlying emotions to take them further. The cherry on the top will be a mixer show where we'll put all these things together.

*This is an advanced workshop - participants should have completed a LV3 improv course or equivalent. If unsure of suitability, please contact paul@belfastimprov.co.uk

Improvisation & Viewpoints

Advanced

How can we be fully aware of what we create while we are creating? How can we let ourselves be in flow and make choices at the same time? Using Viewpoints of Time and Space by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, we will find tools for Improv performances to help us with simple things as remembering where improvised objects are, to more deep issues of movement and presence in the scene.

*This is an advanced workshop - participants should have completed a LV3 improv course or equivalent. If unsure of suitability, please contact paul@belfastimprov.co.uk

Character-Driven Narrative

Advanced

As improvisers we invent stories; by training we are good at that. But in this workshop we will steer away from explicit storytelling. Instead we will focus on defining what really drives a character. We will learn this by practicing scene setups, both in one-character and multi-character situations. Playing in this style is not difficult, but it does take some practice - in this workshop you will learn the tools for such practice.

*This is an advanced workshop - participants should have completed a LV3 improv course or equivalent. If unsure, please contact paul@belfastimprov.co.uk
