Next week sees the return of Fast & Loose, Accidental's transatlantically adopted 24 hour plays project. This will be the second year we're bringing it to the Lyric and the 7th year that Fast & Loose has been produced in Belfast. It originated with Sacred Fools Theater Company based in Los Angeles and Emily had it packed in her suitcase when she landed in the UK. This year we have four more writers tackling the overnight writing challenge and a host of actors and directors standing by to make their work come to life in only 12 hours.
The project kicked off this month with an awkward and only slightly embarrassing press photo shoot on the main stage of the Lyric, with a few of the Accidental team and two of the writers on the project. The marketing officers of the Lyric, Arts Council and our own Elizabeth enjoyed the various contorted poses and hyperbolic faces that Emily, Andrea, Fionnuala and myself could pull for the photos. And the results can be seen above.
From last year we have focused on making the project particularly focused upon developing the work of the playwrights involved. With workshops that explore a mixture of key skills and project specific tools in the lead up to the writing night itself. It's a special opportunity to get to inhabit the Lyric overnight and as always we're very thankful to them for allowing us the run of the building - we'll have to be careful though.
